A club for photographers, including among its members “some of the nation’s greatest cameramen,” which offers a grand prize of $5,000 to whichever of its members submits the best photograph of Superman in action. Although “camera aces” Archie Pink and Doc Sloan are odds-on favorites to win the prize, the contest is ultimately won by underdog lensman Howard Figit, a scrawny, bespectacled, unassuming fellow who repeatedly risks his life to obtain photos of Superman, ironically because he hopes that winning the prize money will enable him to “afford to seek the action and thrilling adventures he’d always dreamed of in his quiet life...“ (WF No. 49, Dec/Jan 1950-1951: “The Men Who Shot Superman!”).
