The name used to describe the yeastlike humanoid extraterrestrial aliens-also referred to as "yeast-people"-who come upon [[Superman]] after he has been accidently rendered unconscious by [[Kryptonite]] and carry him back them to their far-distant planet in the belief that they have captured a specimen of the average earthling. Severely weakened by the kryptonite collar around his neck-which he had placed there himself in an unsuccessful attempt to build up a kryptonite immunity-and unable to duplicate the "strange hissing speech" of his captors in order to communicate with them, Superman is studied and tested like a laboratory animal, and then patronized and coddled like a household pet, until finally he succeeds in burning off his kryptonite collar, regainig his super-strength, and persuading the "yeast-men" that he is not a lower animal at all, but rather an intelligent being like themselves entitled to his freedom and treatment as an equal (S No. 84/2, Sep/Oct '53: "A Doghouse for Superman!").
