Stasis

A costumed criminal that Superboy encounters in a 1978 chronicle.

Stasis comes to Smallville along with his two henchmen to organize an extortion and protection racket in the town, beginning their reign of terror by attacking Jonathan Kent and vandalizing the Kent General Store. Superboy, who was not present in Smallville when his foster father was attacked, seeks revenge upon the trio of criminals when they later attempt to assault the owner of the Smallville Soda Shop, but is easily defeated by Stasis, who uses his ability to stop the normal flow of all biological functions in an opponent to freeze the Boy of Steel. Having defeated Superboy, Stasis parades the young hero before the Smallville citizens congregating in the town square as proof of his power. Lana Lang, Pete Ross, and Martha Kent who are present in the crowd, rally the townspeople to Superboy's aid, and in the ensuing confrontation, Stasis loses his concentration and Superboy is able to break free of the criminal's control. Tearing the roof off Stasis's limousine and polishing it to mirror brightness, Superboy reflects the villain's powers back at him, ironically freezing the crook in place (SF No. 192/1, Dec 1978: "This Town for Plunder!").
