An unhappy, wheelchair-bound billionaire who, having never in his life known the joy of laughter, promises to donate $1,000,000,000 to the Metropolis Orphan Fund if any man in Metropolis can make him laugh. Although many famous comics try and fail, Clark Kent ultimately succeeds, albeit by accident, when an unexpected emergency forces him to change to Superman in Smith’s presence and Smith, far from realizing that he has suddenly become privy to Superman’s secret identity, begins to laugh uproariously at the very suggestion that meek Clark Kent could possibly be Superman (S No. 136/3, Apr 1960: “The Super-Clown of Metropolis!")
