Jigger Benson

Jigger Benson. The leader of a gang of criminals and Metropolis's "number one man in crime," who, fearful of the impending exposure of his activities in an ongoing series of Daily Planet crime articles authored by Clark Kent, hatches a scheme to destroy the Planet's credibility to ensure that the upcoming exposés will be widely disbelieved. However, after being repeatedly thwarted by Superman—in spite of the fact that, with Perry White on vacation, the Daily Planet has been left temporarily in the hands of a headline-hunting editor whose thirst for sensationalism and failure to research his stories properly play right into the hands of the criminals—Jigger Benson and his henchmen are finally apprehended by Superman in September 1954 (S No. 92/1: "The Impossible Headlines!").
