Hazel Powell

Hazel meets Jimmy.

In October 1969, after Jimmy Olsen's expose brings down the gang headed by the recently deceased "Little Louie", Daily Planet editor Perry White promotes cub reporter Olsen to the status of "full-fledged reporter". Immediately thereafter, White assigns Olsen to "break in our new cub!" This new cub reporter is the lovely brunette Hazel Powell. Upon meeting Jimmy Olsen, Hazel exclaims, "Hello, Jimmy! Gee, it's a real thrill to meet you!" She adds, "I'm your biggest fan! It was reading about your adventures with Superman that inspired me to go to journalism school!"

As Jimmy and Hazel go in search of stories, the accident-prone Hazel winds up inadvertently saving Jimmy from gangland reprisal four times before Superman comes to escort the criminals to jail (SPJO No. 124/1, "Jimmy Olsen's Girl Trouble!").
