Selwyn, Digby. The immensely wealthy farmowner and father of (presumably widowed) of Sally Selwyn, whose property resides somewhere in the North American countryside. As well as owning a large farm, Digby owns some timberland where he runs Selwyn Lumber Co. and employs lumberjack Bart Benson (1963) as foreman.

Digby and his daughter Sally encountered Superman when he was amnesiac and powerless due to the effects of some Red Kryptonite, and dressed in the clothes of his Clark Kent identity. With his memory gone, Superman decided to go under the name Jim White, and was taken in and tended to by Selwyn and his daughter when he wandered confused and dehydrated onto the property of their land and collapsed. Digby decided to hire 'Jim' to work on his timberland, having been impressed when he helped prevent lightning from destroying a water pipleline being built on the Selwyn's farm. Apparently he had no objections to the subsequent romantic relationship that devloped between his daughter Sally and 'Jim'.

However, when Benson (unknown to anyone), a jealous rival for Sally's affections shoved a paralysed and wheel-chair bound 'Jim' into the sea, (Jim's injuries were the result of another scheme by Benson), it was Digby who tended to his grief-stricken daughter who belived Jim had died. (In actuality, Superman was found by the mermaid Lori Lemaris and her people in the sea, and the effects of the Red Kryptonite wore off, but by then he had no memory of his time with the Selwyns).

Digby and Sally believed Jim had committed suicide and thrown himself into the sea because of his grief over his paralysis. Digby then asked his daughter did she only want to marry Jim out of pity, to which she replied, "I loved him... with all my heart!"
