Its greatest distinction from the Earth-1 (mainstream) continuity is that it features modern-day stories of the successors of Superman and his contemporaries (Batman, Wonder Woman, etc.), since on Earth-2, Superman's greatest activity was during the Golden Age, not in the present day. Earth-2 first appeared in 1961, as the background for the story "Tale of Two Flashes".
