Brice Rogers

Astronaut Brice Rogers. Art by Dick Sprang and Stan Kaye, 1958.

The pilot of the world’s “first manned rocket,” which is hurled into Moon orbit by Superman in December 1958 and then caught by Superman when it descends to Earth again. Due to a mysterious “chemical reaction” resulting from his simultaneous exposure to the light of the moon and the eerie glow of a passing comet during his brief journey through space, Rogers soon launches a spectacular career in crime as the Moonman. Years later, astronaut trainee Stacy Macklin is exposed to a similar effect and becomes Lady Lunar (WF No. 98, Dec 1958: “The Menace of the Moonman!”; WF No. 266, Dec 1980/Jan 1981: "The Last Laugh of Lady Lunar").
