Not long after Kara had reached her teens, the entire population of Argo City succumbed to deadly Anti-[[Kryptonite]] poisoning, but not before Zor-El had placed his daughter in a space rocket and launched her toward Earth, where she would acquire super-powers and achieve worldwide fame as Supergirl. Alura and Zor-El survived the death of Argo City by escaping into the so-called [[Survival Zone]], an alien dimension from which Supergirl finally freed them in early 1964.
