Vivanium

Vivanium is an ultra-rare element that can power a machine that gives super-powers. Lex Luthor makes a vivanium machine and Lois Lane tries it on herself and gets super-powers for 8 hours. After destroying the machine, Superman burns the last of the vivanium that existed on Earth (Act No. 156, May 1951: "The Girl of Steel").
