Professor Johns
A prominent scientist, mortally wounded by criminals trying to obtain his new "power formula," who manages to whisper his secret formula to Clark Kent before lapsing into a coma from which he never recovers. Superman finally apprehends Johns's killers in September-October 1949 and turns his formula over to a government official as per the dying scientist's last instructions (S No. 60/2: "The Men Who Had to Guard Superman!").
